Pre-Season - Week 3, Wednesday

Was out for dinner last night ... Tandoori Indian Restaurant.  Lovely meal.  I chose the Madras (hot) chicken dish with steamed rice.  I left 90% of the sauce to try to minimise the damage.  I had one naan bread (garlic) and two lemon, lime & bitter drinks.  Followed by one cup of hot chocolate.

I had kept my intake to a minimum all day and also went for 5.55km bike ride yesterday too.

This morning I weighed myself ... I'd put on 200g.  Now this could have been because I ate later than usual last night, not sure, so will just check on the scales in the morning.  I won't take that as official because it's not my weigh day.  But it will enable me to see if I'm keeping on track (I think it will anyway).  I was disappointed to see a gain considering the hard work I'd put in to get a loss, but those are the breaks, and as long as I keep plugging away the weight WILL come off!!!

I gave myself a day off exercise today as I'd been exercising everyday for a week and a lot of it was quite intense.  Back into the full exercise regime tomorrow, starting with Wii Fit and Wii Zumba in the morning as I have hairdresser after work and so won't be able to get out on my bike tomorrow night, so it will be one of Mish's DVD workouts once I get home.

Saturday afternoon I have booked a facial and in the morning I'll be getting another manicure and colour & nail art change.

I'll also be shopping for ingredients for some recipes in the Crunch Time Cookbook and will make some of them for next week.

Well enough rambling from me for today :o)

Thursday morning BUGGA! those 200g are STILL THERE, well, back to the drawing board and see where I'm going wrong!

Pre-Season - Week 3, Sunday (day one)

Wow, another message from Mish.  Today has brought tears.  I thought I was okay with some of the things, but then I read a very moving post by one of the 30+ girls which hit home.  I am still carrying excess baggage around with me.  I got very emotional, felt sick/empty in my stomach at the end so maybe, just maybe, this is one of the things I needed to get out of me.  I've put other things in here but there was just something I had to put there.

Yes, I admit it.  I LOVE MY MUM, but I at times hate her too.  Is this normal?  Maybe!  The incident I recalled when responding to the post which had me bawling my eyes out was when I was around 3 or 4 years old, my older sisters and I had obviously been naughty.  My mother got hold of a suitcase and went to the door saying she was leaving and wouldn't be coming back until we all behaved better.  I still remember this clearly so obviously it was festering.  I remember I was crying and saying I'd be good.  Another more recent memory was in 1990, we had my husband's sister and OH visiting us from overseas.  My parents were also living with us at that time so we had a lot of socialising between all of us.  I am not, and never have been, a heavy drinker.  Each night everyone else would get "merry" and I would enjoy my time with them too but without drinking alcohol.  At this time I was around 80kg (still heavy by about 20kg but meh I could live with that).  One night they had all been having a ball, drinking and carrying on, I'd been making sure the kids were asleep and cleaning tidying up from the meal earlier, then I went to join in with them.  Out of the blue my mother said to me (and denied it ever since by the way, but my OH heard and remembers too), oh yes Gail, I never wanted you, I tried to get rid of you and I still don't want you.  My dad tried to stop her but she went on.  My OH's sister and OH didn't fully understand what was said as English is their 2nd language her OH understood more and tried to make light of things and get things smooth again as they could feel something wasn't right.  I said I'll leave you all to it, goodnight, and went to bed crying my eyes out and my OH came through to comfort me, knowing just how hard the kick in the guts had been for me.  I'd opened my heart and house to my family and got that in return.  Makes one wonder just how worthy one is.

I have forgiven her, many years ago, for both of these, but obviously they were still festering.  Hopefully now I've lanced them so they can now drain the poison away and heal cleanly.

I no longer thought I was worth doing/being/having the nice things ... my own children don't remember even a card or phone call for my birthday and they're adults now.

I think this is why I've piled on the extra 30+ kgs even when I've tried to lose (was up to 95kg 11 years ago and lost 15 to 18kg but couldn't maintain as didn't learn how to eat right for life) and now I had (at the start of this) 52kg to lose, now only 48.1kg to get rid of.

However, now with the 12wbt I am finding that I truly AM worth being well looked after.  I am going to arrange for a facial for some time this week as I do deserve it.  I am not going to look at the $$'s but am just going to do it!!!!!

Okay, enough blubbering away for now.  Time to go get myself moving for the day.  Oh, Yes, today I have my 2nd road cycling class and am looking forward to it.  I have my bike, I got a bike rack as that was easier than putting my bike in the back of my car all the time, I have my helmet and water bottle.  I also have the right 3/4 length pants and a nice airy top but also a vest to keep the chill off the tummy and also to hold things like my keys and a coin purse, lol :D .  Will catch up later.

Sorry if this doesn't read smoothly but just putting it all down is helping I think.

Okay, doing better this afternoon/evening.  Went for my road cycling course (last session) and we did 8.3km and I used 418 kcal (hopefully this means just calories, lol).  Time to finish things off here for the weekend.  Talk more later :D ciao

Pre-Season - Week 2 Thursday

Another first for me today ... I went to the Gym and participated in a Zumba Class ... yes, I lasted the whole hour, but had some mini breaks, sort of, in between, kept moving but not doing the full actions.

I can already feel that I'll be sore in the morning but will push through the pain as I'm sure it will be there.

I've been trying to stay with my 1200 calories going in and have mostly kept to that, only one or two times a little over one meal's allowance, so happy with my efforts there so far.

Most days I've managed around 200 calorie expenditure in half hour of exercise.  Today, however, in the class I burnt 467 calories in one hour (think it would have been over 500 if I'd been able to do the whole class without slowing down at all).

So, what does that say to me?  It says I need to up the ante (so to speak) and do at least ONE hour of exercise each day, no excuses.  So, in the morning it's Wii Fit for 30 mins and after I get home from work it's cycling for 30 mins (or a combination of cycling and Wii Fit) but tomorrow I'll be burning 500 calories per day!  That's it, no more pussy footing around.  I now MUST burn 500 cal's/day for 6 days each week.  I hear that this will get changed later but for now that's enough for me.

I'll also slow down on blogging, lol, but will blog at least twice per week at least until the round starts in earnest.  I'll also not spend so much time on FB and the forums (spending wa-ay too much time on those) but will still go there each day but will limit my time to half hour for each dealing with 12wbt (still have other contacts I'll need to keep up over & above this in FB but will limit my daily times).

This way I'll have more time for exercising :D .

Day 10 Pre-Season

YAY had a loss this week ... 800g GONE!!!  Now that may not seem like much but I'm very happy with this.  Remembering that I'm not fully following the program.  I am trying to remain within the 1200 calories per day and working towards 500 cal exercise per day (not anywhere near that yet but WILL get there!), so far since starting to monitor my weight I've lost 3.9kg which is almost to my first mini goal of 5kg.  Will get there for next week I reckon :D.

Okay, so what could I have done differently/better to achieve a larger loss?  I could have ensured I stayed with 1200 cal/day ... went WAY over yesterday with dinner last night even though I had a lot less than I would have before - this is the potato side.  I have cut right back on the amount I have but need to cut down even more or not have at all from now on.

The other thing was EXERCISE, yes I know I'm still getting into the "habit" of exercising but I'm not 100% there yet.  I am to commit myself more to exercise.  Once I've finished doing all my stat's this morning I am to do half an hour MINIMUM exercise with Wii Fit or Zumba or My Shape.  Tonight I must ride a minimum 4km on the bike ... but aim for 1/2 hour ride rather than distance I think ... that would be somewhere around the 6km mark.  Although I must also slow down my cycling to burn more fat rather than the aerobic fitness.  Last night was only 2 min fat burn and 8 aerobic for the 2km ride.  I was looking to do more last night but even though I pushed myself to do more I just couldn't, the legs just would not work any more, they were like jelly and my BUTT, woo was that STILL sore!!!  Much less sore than the day before but still very painful but that I could push through, just the legs stopped me.  But at least I got out there and did SOMETHING.  Something is better than nothing but now I need to push myself further and do more.

Okay, off to update my ticker and get on with my morning exercise (it's not 5:30am yet)

Day 7 Pre-Season part two

Well as promised, here is the next (and last) instalment for today.

To start, I'm aiming to lose 20kg by Christmas (2 dress sizes) ... there, I've said it! To help me get there I've bought a bike, and am re-learning how to ride (tick, done today) and get more confident out on the road (started today). I had decided to have bike riding as one of my major exercise tools during this journey and had been researching a bike, had gone to look at it during my lunch break and came back to find an email about a free bike riding course and so I booked in to that.

It's a two day/afternoon course and day one was today. It goes from 1pm to 4pm. There is theory as well as practical.

Overall, today, we did 33 mins of bike riding out of the 3 hours, 20 mins of that out on the road. Next week we'll be going further afield and there will be more hills/rises involved, also we'll be dealing with roundabouts of which there are HUNDREDS around where the course was held.

Well I got home and guess what OH and I went for another bike ride, we did nearly 4km in just over 15 mins, so really happy with this. OH is going with me until I get more confident riding on the roads around here - country roads, trucks, semi's and fast moving traffic although thankfully not busy like in town.

Day 7 Pre-Season part one

Okay, so it's part one, as I still have my cycling class this afternoon to remind myself of later lol.

Today I got up and logged onto the 12wbt site and saw that the next task has been released ... Goal setting.  Now this is NOT just for the 12wbt but for 12 MONTHS ... that took a little while to sort out but I've done it.  I filled in Mish's template AND copied it all into a Word document so that I can have it printed out and stuck right in my face!!!!  Also this means that I can amend/adjust as I smash those goals to smithereenies.  I'd really like to achieve or be close to my 6 month goals by the end of the 12wbt hence the smashing to smithereenies bit, lol hahaha.

Now, here is my listing as taken from my Word document (and Mish's template):

My Goals for the Next 12 months:
 1 month goals:

I will lose a further 8kg (currently have lost 3.1kg).
I will ride my bike on the road for 20km.
Fit comfortably into size 18 clothes.

How will I get there?:

Start following the eating and exercise plan eg 1200 calories in through the mouth, minimum 500 calories out per day with exercise over and above my BMR.  I will achieve this by:

·               Preparing meals in advance where I can to save time.
·               Use the meals/snacks from the program.
·               Only go to a shop when I need to buy the weekly supplies for the program.
·               Exercise for half an hour each morning before getting ready for work.
·               Ride my bike and build up my distance, time and intensity.
·               Go for walks and try to start running/jogging (this will be latter half of month).
·               Go to a class at a gym, eg Zumba or RPM or something to get me moving.

3 month goals:

I will have lost 20kg since hearing of the 12wbt in July 2011.
This will bring me into size 14 to 16 clothes I think.

How will I get there?

Continue following the eating and exercise plan as per my one month goal.

·               Increase morning exercise to one hour before getting ready for work.
·               Ride my bike all the way on the Northern Expressway Bike Path from Pt Wakefield Road through to Gawler AND return.
·               I will continue running, will aim for 5km non-stop running.

6 month goals:

I will have lost a total of 35kg since hearing of the 12wbt in July 2011.
I think this will be around size 12 to 14 clothes.

How will I get there?

Continue following the eating and exercise plan as per my one month goal.  Increase the intensity of my bike riding (use a harder gear) and continue running, start increasing toning exercises.

I will do this by:
·               One hour exercise each morning before getting ready for work.
·               Going on various bike rides with a club or group
·               Run for 10km without stopping
·               Go to a gym and partake in classes (Zumba, RPM, Body Attack etc)
·               While at gym do weights/strengthening things.

12 month goals:

Have lost a total of 50kg since hearing of the 12wbt in July 2011.  I do not know what size clothing this will bring me to, but think it will be an 8 to 10 size.

How will I get there?

Continue following the eating and exercise plan eg 1200 calories in through the mouth, minimum 500 calories out per day with exercise over and above my BMR.  Increase the intensity of all exercise, including toning for shape.

·               One hour exercise each morning before getting ready for work.
·               Go through Clare Valley Winery Tour on my bike with OH
·               Continue to run 10km.
·               Continue classes and weights/strengthening exerices.

Day 6 Pre-Season

Well, what a week this has been.  Lots to go over and get straight in my head that's for sure.  I'm pretending until it gets real as it WILL get real over time.

I'm upping my exercise from ZERO to half an hour to one hour per day.  Once I'm able to complete this comfortably I'll be increasing the intensity.

Went right out of my comfort zone today and went to check a gym out, still scared but will attend at least one day per week maybe more.

Getting a bit worried about tomorrow when I have a THREE hour, that's right 3 HOUR, bike session.  I'm hoping that at least 2 hours of this is theory, lol.  I will do my exercises in the morning, this is EXTRA.  In fact I am committed to doing 1/2 to 1 hour each MORNING before getting ready for work, this is being done in home or on my bike (depending on weather).

Have been eating well the past couple of days ... FULLY ... as in keeping to my 1200 calories intake.  Going by my BMR I should, even without exercise and only taking this amount in, lose some weight (no idea how much though, lol).

Okay enough for today, need to go play with the fur kids :o) ... anyone following this have a great day.  Please feel free to leave comments if you want :o)

19 August 2011

Day 5 Pre-Season

Oh My, Task 2 is not an easy one at all.  I've had to search deep within myself to find the REAL reason why I make excuses to stay fat and frumpy, why I rarely use makeup etc.

It's not an easy thing to put in writing, particularly in here, but here goes.  I feel if I'm fat and unattractive I will not have people "hitting" on me (not that likely now anyway due to my age hahaha).

It started when I was nearly 10 when I was interfered with, even now I have that incident in my head and need to REMOVE IT!

Then there was the time when I was engaged to my now husband and was asked out by someone who stopped me in the street (not so bad as they accepted I wasn't interested).

But then I was just pregnant with our first child and he was telling me to leave my husband, my husband was not good for me etc etc etc he would not take NO for an answer, in the end I left that area of my work (due to my pregnancy) so didn't have this every day for hours.

During that pregnancy I more than doubled my weight, and have yet to get back even within cooee of it.

Since then I've been the joker the one with all the laughs all the time, even when I feel like crap and want to bawl my eyes out.  I've had a lot of snide comments over the years about my size so am VERY self conscious of my size but have tried to believe I was happy with my size and have made friends/family think I am happy with this weight ... I AM NOT HAPPY WITH MY SIZE OR WEIGHT!!!!

I am now taking back control of my life.  I am NOT going to let circumstances or other people dictate what my weight/size will be unless it is in line with what I want!!  I am not expecting to get back to the weight I was (around 48 to 50kg) as that would, in my eyes, be unrealistic at this stage.  I am however going to get back to 60kg, which means I will be losing 52kg from my original starting weight, although I have managed to remove 3.1kg for the start of pre-season (and this was with using Mish's recipes for ONE meal per day, 2 or 3 times per week for 4 weeks).

I don't feel I can put all this anywhere in the forums so am putting this here where I can easily find things and add to it as I come across more.

OMG this has made me feel sick/empty in my stomach but in a "good" way, strange but I know what I mean. I know that I WILL ACHIEVE MY GOALS.  I have 1.9kg to my first mini goal (5kg) when I will go for a facial.  I will do this BEFORE the start of Round 3, 2011.  In fact, I have decided that I will have removed that 5kg by next week's weigh in day (Wednesday), that gives me FIVE DAYS to WORK MY BUTT OFF and keep my PORTION SIZE & EATING UNDER CONTROL.  I will also DRINK 3L OF WATER PER DAY over and above any other tea/coffee.  I will minimise my coffee intake ... made it yesterday with a total of four cups of coffee (down from 8).  I'm not worried with my tea as this is herbal, no-caffeine the only thing is I still need a little sweetening of this, I use half a teaspoon of honey usually and I'm counting the calories of this in my daily allowance.  Mind you I also usually have 4 or 5 cups throughout the working day (I generally drink tea at work and coffee at home).  Coffee is usually black with no sugar or other sweetener (yuck can't stand this in coffee), however I have been known to have the occasional cappacino (?sp?) or hot chocolate.  But no more than ONE a week now (used to have one per day).

Phew!! What a catharsis this has been.  I feel empowered and ready to tackle anything that's thrown my way right now.  I'm starting to feel a bit better about myself as I have committed to getting the real me back and I am determined to find me again.

17 August 2011

Day 3 Pre-Season

Phew!  Lots happening but not enough just yet.  Have decided I need to NOT go on forums etc in the morning.  I MUST use this time for EXERCISE!!!!

Next on my list ... LUNCH.  I must make and take my lunch to work ... also some snacks, eg apple, vita wheats etc.  This will not only save me $$$'s but also ensure I'm eating right throughout the day.

Also, have seen on the forums where others have got into the habit of brushing their teeth after dinner so that they no longer look for food, it's basically a "switch off" mechanism/habit.  This is not a major problem with me as I don't usually eat after dinner BUT it IS a good habit to get into as then even on the odd day when I feel like having a late night snack I won't have one.

Okay, so three things to concentrate on from today.  Luckily I've got the breakfast down pat now so that is becoming a habit (ie eating breakfast EVERY day).

Getting to know the girls on the Adelaide section on FB, they sure seem a great and supportive bunch.  Happy to be part of their team.

Sooo wanted to go for a ride tonight but OH needed help with other things so that's gone out the window (oh yes, plus it started raining about 5 mins after I said about it and just now I'm not ready for rain - will need to get wet weather gear for that as I can't afford to get sick right now).

Have prepared/set up a folder for the round, might need to change to a larger one later but for now it's at least a start.

Well must go for now, time to make dinner.

16 August 2011

Pre Season

Hi, well, this is a first for me, a bit scary.

Here I can "pour my heart out" when I need to.  I think I should be fine just that it's all so different and I'm not sure what will be asked of me and if I can make it to the end of this round.  Having said that makes me more determined to be successful.

I have loads of weight to lose, although not as much as some of the girls but not far off there either.  I had been obese for many years and was able to keep to roughly the same weight for several years, couldn't lose but wasn't gaining any either.

Then came ill health which in turn meant I had to have several major operations (well 3 within 12 months).  Of course that started when I was trying to stop smoking so of course THAT went out the window for a time.

After the operations I was not able to exercise even to the small amount I was doing before (which was training our fur kids for shows ... several laps of the oval each week, often two or three times a week).

Last July (8th) I finally stopped smoking so decided not to worry about me forever increasing weight until I was securely quit of cigarettes.

About four weeks ago I started looking for ways to lose weight and came across a forum which was talking about Michelle Bridge's 12wbt.  I'd never heard of Michelle but thought if all these ladies are raving about how great it was I'd have to investigate further.

I asked one of the girls at work about Michelle and she told me ... Oh, she is a PT on the Biggest Loser.  Doh I've never watched the program as it made me cringe as I realised that those people could easily have been me.  Well I investigated and found out more and decided okay, this is the RIGHT one for me as it's not a diet but a lifestyle change.

I bought the Crunch Time Cookbook and tried a few recipes out ... BOY were they FILLING and the servings were, to me, HUGE ... not only that but they TASTED GREAT which is a must for me.  My OH also ate the same as me but I gave him the option of having extra carbs as he works physically so needs more than me as my work is fairly sedentary (??sp??).  After the first meal I made he said no, please don't give me extra as the servings themselves are enough!!  Which I thought was great as I struggled to finish my meals.

During my investigations I found that there are three set rounds each year, each consisting of 4 weeks pre-season and 12 weeks of program where we get stuck right in and lose those kg's and get fitter and healthier.  I found that there were about 4 weeks until the next pre-season started (darn, darn, darn!) but getting some of my head straight took that long so it's not been wasted.  It gave me time to start getting my head (and body) prepared for what will come.

I got some exercise DVD's - Mish's and a beginner Zumba, dragged out my Wii Fit, bought a Wii Your Shape and last, but most importantly, bought a bicycle and helmet (plus a few other little extra's which will make my life easier later) and put my name down for a cycling course which was advertised at my work, which consists of 2 x 3 hour sessions.

I got the bike as I have "dodgy knees" as in they get very painful (sharp pains) if I do stairs, walk too fast or try to run, but the bike is fine so I know the knees play up due to the excessive weight they're supporting.  I went for my first bike ride in like about 19 years on Sunday (after all the grandies went home) and rode for about 2km ... not a lot I know but my OH, who cycles every day, went with me but was hard pressed to keep up, so I know I'm pushing myself with it then.

I got the call today re the cycling course and I start next Sunday.  It involves theoretical stuff before a safe, traffic free practice before going out on the local roads (that is scary for me).

Okay, enough for one session, plus it's almost time for bed.  Will make sure I post at least every two to three days and will record any changes, weight/shape, as time goes by ... oh yes, with those mini changes made I lost 3.1kg in those 4 weeks since I found out about 12wbt (and I've had KFC and other norty things but tried to keep all this to a minimum).  Oh yes, cut out 95% of soft drink (including pre-mixed alcohol).
